Anxiety Dog Training

Anxiety Dog Training in Columbus

Many owners don’t realize their canine experiences anxiety, but it’s a very common issue. Anxious dogs may present fearful behavior, like tail tucking, or aggressive behavior, like growling. As certified professional dog trainers, it’s our job to treat dogs with anxiety and diagnose it for dog owners. We use obedience training. desensitization, and socialization to cure anxiety in dogs.

What is the Source of Anxiety in Dogs?

You may have noticed your canine behaving strangely in certain situations, especially when exposed to new stimuli. These stimuli can include new people, places, sounds, or smells. To a point, anxiety is normal—it tells us (and our dogs) that something is different, and we should pay attention. Once they evaluate that change and see there is nothing to fear, your dog should adjust. Many dogs, however, don’t.

The other significant trigger for anxious behavior is, of course, separation anxiety. This brand of anxiety is hard to miss. If you feel like your dog’s security blanket, they probably have separation anxiety. Again, they may simply need time to adjust to the idea of you being gone for long periods—or they may benefit from training.

Early warning signs of anxiety:

  • Excessively pant, whine, bark, or dig.
  • Demonstrate aggressive behavior like growling, snapping, and hard staring.
  • Demonstrate destructive behavior, like scratching or chewing.

Training a Dog with Anxiety

It may seem strange to use behavioral training to keep your dog’s anxiety in check, but anxious dogs can learn to manage anxiety with proper training. At Buckeye  Dog Training, we use balanced, structured training methods to build your dog’s confidence and change how they respond to their surroundings.

For dogs with separation anxiety, we focus again on confidence building, self-soothing, and structured routines to help make your dog remain calm in your absence.

Our trainers work with you to devise a training plan unique to your dog’s needs. Owner involvement is paramount when training an anxious dog, so be prepared to take charge of the leash while we guide you through one-on-one, real-world practice.
